According to reports in The Daily Mail, Leeds United have launched a bid to sign 22-year-old midfielder Ivan Sunjic.
The youngster could easily slot into the Leeds side in place of Kalvin Phillips as speculation hots up about a potential move to Aston Villa.
What’s the story?
The Whites face some competition from Birmingham City for the Croatian’s signature.
The article states that Sunjic has been looked at closely by the Yorkshire club due to the fact they don’t know if they will still have Phillips next season.
If the 23-year-old does indeed go to Villa Park, then there is no reason why the Dinamo Zagreb man can’t step up and take his place.
Phillips replacement
The Croatia U21 captain looks to have the pedigree needed to make an impact in the Championship.
The youngster is a Europa League regular, having appeared eight times in the competition last term.
Another indicator of the talent he possesses is the fact that he is a full international for Croatia, having made his debut in 2017.
The World Cup finalists have one of the strongest midfields in the world, and despite Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic and Mateo Kovacic all standing between Sunjic and a spot in the national team, he has been a part of their plans, appearing once in 2017.

On top of this, he may yet improve under the tutelage of Marcelo Bielsa. We’ve seen what the Argentine can do for a young midfielder in Phillips as he improved leaps and bounds last term, in turn, earning himself a place in the Championship Team of the Year.
Aged just 22, Sunjic could be the perfect prototype for the 61-year-old to work his magic on again, and he could turn out to be a more than adequate replacement for one of Leeds’ key men should he leave this summer.
