New Everton boss Ronald Koeman has been quick to act this summer, bringing in players to bolster his squad.
The former Southampton manager has signed the likes of Idrissa Gueye from Aston Villa, Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace, Maarten Stekelenburg from Fulham and Ashley Williams from Swansea, and so far it’s working well.
The Toffees find themselves fourth in the Premier League behind both Manchester clubs and Chelsea, leaving their fans to ponder whether Champions League football could be possible.
Koeman himself might be thinking about that, given that the club have no other European commitments to think about this season so his business may not be done just yet in this transfer window.
There are plenty of stories still flying around and involving the club from Goodison Park, so here at Football FanCast we’ve had a look through them to bring you five players that could be in blue come 1st September.
Yacine Brahimi
Koeman clearly wants extra width in his new team given the signing of Bolasie and it may not end there. If Porto winger Yacine Brahimi were to arrive at Goodison, he would be geared up to compete with the former Palace man Bolasie, and also Kevin Mirallas and Gerard Deulofeu. The Dutch manager wants competition for places and he’d certainly get that by signing Brahimi.
Manolo Gabbiadini
The Toffees are reportedly in talks to get this deal over the line in time as they look to give Romelu Lukaku something to think about for his spot. The Napoli forward saw chances limited by the fact Gonzalo Higuain was in the form of his life last season and now he sees Arkadiusz Milik in his way. Napoli’s loss though could be Everton’s gain as Gabbiadini has played internationally for Italy too.
Wilfried Bony
Like many strikers Bony needs confidence and game time to be scoring regularly and to be frank he hasn’t had either for the duration of his time at Manchester City. At Swansea though, he was a real dominant force and if he can rediscover that for Everton he’d be a hit. He’s a similar player to Lukaku and that would also ensure he slots straight into the way the Toffees play and The Liverpool Echo thinks it’s on.
Bruno Martins Indi
Everton suffered last season with Leighton Baines out of the side, so if he gets injured again they could be in trouble. Baines is in the twilight of his career anyway so even if he stays fit for the rest of career the club need a replacement and Martins Indi would be ideal. He’s only 24, played at a World Cup and in the Champions League, so he has all the requisite experience.
Juan Mata
When Jose Mourinho came into Manchester United many felt that was the end of the Spaniard’s Old Trafford career. The Portuguese manager got rid of Mata at Chelsea and it was expected he’d do the same at the Red Devils but for now at least he is starting. You never know with Mourinho though, he could change his mind in a flash or just be playing us all along, if he is Everton were allegedly interested earlier in the summer and surely would be once more.
