The United States international joined the Dutch giants on a season-long loan, with a permanent option, last August and since then he has scored two goals in 36 appearances. However, the full-back's impressive season was cut short in April after picking up an ACL injury and now Dutch publication Eindhovens Dagblad reports the 23-year-old will not join the Eredivisie outfit permanently for the time being as a result.

The report adds that Dest, who is out of contract at Barcelona and may never play for the Spanish giants again, could join PSV permanently next year, providing his recovery goes well. The United States international will be able to talk to teams about a possible move from January 1, 2025, as he enters the last six months of his contract with Barcelona. Moreover, the Dutch league champions would be open to signing him in the winter transfer window or as a free agent in the summer of 2025.

Before his injury, PSV were reportedly in conversations with Barcelona about signing the defender – who played 14 times for AC Milan during a loan stint last season – this summer. However, the former Ajax man's injury has put that on hold for the time being.
