Shaw has majorly been a bystander this season at Manchester United as the Red Devils have been through a rollercoaster of a season including the departure of Erik ten Hag and the appointment of Amorim. The England international played as a substitute as the left centre-back in the Portuguese coach's first two clashes in charge of United but has been out injured since then.

Mount has been an on-again, off-again presence at Manchester United this season as he missed the start of the season before being dropped by Ten Hag before Amorim brought the midfielder back into the fold before he picked up his thigh injury. The former Sporting boss has now provided an update on Shaw and Mount's return from injury.

Speaking to the media, Amorim said: “Luke Shaw is nearer than Mason Mount.
“Mason Mount will take a little bit longer. Luke, we’ll see in the next week or two. We’ll see if he’s returning.”

Amorim will lead his side into their next two clashes without both Shaw and Mount as the Red Devils take on Southampton later on Thursday before they face Brighton on Sunday, January 19.
