The Azulcremas entered the match against Atlas with the motivation of having eliminated Chivas 4-0 in the Round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions Cup. As if that wasn't enough, León's loss to Necaxa on Friday opened the door for América to regain the top spot with a win over Atlas, an opportunity they did not let slip away.
WHAT LUIS ÁNGEL MALAGÓN SAID
"We are a great family, and despite the adversities, we are always together and striving for good things," América goalkeeper Luis Angel Malagon said. "Recovering first place is very important with teams like Tigres, León, and Cruz Azul on the rise. The level in Mexico is increasing, and we have to work hard, take advantage of this FIFA break, and keep moving forward."
