According to The Liverpool Echo, Everton are planning a swoop for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.
The 21-year-old is defining himself as one of the leading midfielders in Europe this season since joining from Amiens in the summer after a season-long loan at Lyon last year. So much so, he has earned his first France cap over the past few weeks.
However, as much as Everton would like to be associated with a man that is being compared to his compatriot N’Golo Kante, they need to get their priorities in order first. The midfielder is already valued at £31.5m on Transfermarkt.co.uk, but the chances are that any potential buyer will have to pay a lot more than that, particularly given the amount of clubs that are after him.
With the likes of Idrissa Gueye, André Gomes (on loan), Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin at Goodison Park, Everton are fairly well stocked in this area of the field. On the other hand, there are still some areas where there at glaring gaps in The Blues’ line-up.
Although winger Richarlison has deputised superbly as a striker under Marco Silva this season, it has perhaps papered over the cracks at the club, mainly the fact that they do not have a performing striker. Cenk Tosun was brought in in January to be this man, but he has failed to deliver. Before Everton ever focus on Ndombele, they should sort themselves out further up the field. This will surely be the area that will let them down more than any other.
